Session Settings

Customize your sessions with Pomodoro timers, voice mode, background music, and pause controls.

Pomodoro Timers

Setting Up

  1. On the session start screen, toggle from "Session" to "Pomodoro"
  2. Set work duration (default: 50 minutes, max: 120)
  3. Set break duration (default: 10 minutes, max: 60)
  4. Start your session

How It Works

  • Timer counts down during work periods — a "WORK" badge shows in the floating island
  • Phil continues teaching during work time
  • Break timer starts automatically when work ends — badge changes to "BREAK"
  • Cycle counter tracks completed Pomodoros
  • Settings tab shows current work/break durations and completed cycles

Common Intervals

  • Standard: 50 min work / 10 min break
  • Traditional: 25 min work / 5 min break
  • Extended: 90 min work / 20 min break

Voice Mode

Auto Listen (Default)

Phil listens continuously. Just speak whenever you want. Phil detects when you start and stop talking.

Push to Talk

Toggle "Push to Talk" in the Settings tab. When enabled, a "Hold to Talk" button appears in the floating island (desktop only). Press and hold to speak, release to send. Useful in noisy environments or when you want more control over when Phil listens.

Session Controls

Available in the Settings tab and the floating island:

Pause Phil

  • Your microphone is muted
  • Phil's audio is muted
  • Timer continues running (unless also paused)
  • Click the mute icon again to resume

Useful for taking calls or thinking quietly.

Pause Timer

  • Timer stops counting
  • Phil continues working normally
  • Study time tracking pauses

Good for interruptions where you want to keep learning but not count the time.

Background Music

Enable ambient sound in the Settings tab to help you focus:

  • Brown Noise: Steady, deep ambient sound
  • Rain + Classical: Rain sounds mixed with classical music
  • Volume slider: Adjust to your preference

Music plays alongside Phil's voice without interfering.

Ending Your Session

  1. Click "End Session" in the sidebar or bottom toolbar
  2. Phil disconnects, all timers stop
  3. Phil's responses are saved as session notes
  4. All study materials, flashcards, and quizzes are saved
  5. Total session time is recorded
  6. A confetti celebration plays

Tips

  • Start with Pomodoro if you struggle with long sessions
  • Use 50/10 for deep learning, 25/5 for memorization
  • Don't stress about pausing — better than getting distracted
  • End sessions when focus declines, even if time remains
  • Try Push-to-Talk in noisy environments
  • Brown Noise helps block distractions
